As the song says, it’s time to “root, root, root for the home team.”
Lickety Split, a men’s softball team sponsored by La Hacienda, is playing in the 2019 Clean and Sober Softball Spring World Series in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 22-24.
Five members of the treatment center staff are part of the squad which starts play at Big League Dreams Field on Friday morning, March 22, against a team from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Lickety Split is competing in the Men’s Recreational Division of the national tournament. The 18 teams in the grouping include one other Texas team, the Nod Squad from Austin.
First Out-of-State Play
Lickety Split’s lineup includes Todd Benedict, Admission Outreach Specialist; Jon Garcia, Admissions Specialist; Ryan McBride, Utilization Review Specialist; Frost Readel, Board of Trustees; and Cade Saurage, Director of Utilization Review and Strategic Partnerships.
The team has played together for five years, competing in recreational leagues in Kerrville and Boerne. While it has participated in tournaments around Texas, it has never traveled out of state.
The players are paying their way to Las Vegas. Some are even taking spouses and kids.
A Good Time in Recovery
The Clean and Sober National Softball Association is hosting the tournament, the second of its kind. Last year it was held in Palm Springs, California.
“We provide a place for the addict or alcoholic to have fun, fellowship, and, of course, compete without having to get loaded,” the association notes on its website.
“This is great,” agreed Cade, who also coaches. “We love the fellowship of playing together, and now traveling together.”
